Fajitas and burritos are two popular dishes in Tex-Mex and Mexican cuisine. Although they share certain similarities, mainly the use of tortillas (not to be confused with Spanish tortillas!), there are several notable differences between them:
The fajita, as described above, originated in Texas, hence the name Tex-mex (Texas-mexican). It is traditionally prepared with beef.
The burrito is also a tortilla, but filled with a wider variety of ingredients, traditionally rice, beans, vegetables and other sauces or creams.
The real difference between the two is in the way they are prepared:
Fajitas are often reheated and served with ingredients separate from the tortilla, which you fill yourself at the table.
Burritos are usually wrapped and hermetically sealed, ready to be eaten with the hands and taken away with ease.
Over time, although the fajita and burrito have distinct origins, compositions and presentations, these dishes are often rightly confused. At Nachos, we call them fajitas, because this iconic dish is prepared right before your eyes, with a variety of fresh, colorful ingredients, from tortillas to homemade guacamole.
